The Value of Interaction Within the HubPages Community
68
No Hub is an Island
Can a Hub stand alone? Is simple text sufficient to draw readers and hold their attention? While I do not suggest a comic book approach to writing here on HubPages, I am convinced that the value of a Hub can be enriched to a great degree by the commentary that hopefully follows. Some Hubbers are extraordinarily eloquent, yet even their writing can be enhanced by discourse. In fact, a writing community such as HubPages invites communication that can lead to a broader understanding of the writing itself:
"Discourse community
- has a broadly agreed set of common public goals
- has mechanisms of intercommunication among its members
- uses its participatory mechanisms primarily to provide information and feedback
- utilizes and hence possesses one or more genres in the communicative utterance of its aims
- has acquired some specific lexis (specialized terminology, acronyms)
- has a treshold level of members with a suitable degree of relevant
- content and discoursal expertis e." (Swales, 1990).
The Nature of Community
Various definitions of community stress proximity of region, or in the case of writing sites such as HubPages, it is the common, unifying aspect of individuals that is apparent.
Location aside, communities may be seen as an "interacting population of various kinds of individuals." [Dictionary.com]
Interaction is the primary component to any group of like-minded community members, and this interaction can lead to a fuller understanding of one's views.
"Unlike debate, dialogue emphasizes listening to deepen understanding. Dialogue invites discovery It develops common values and allows participants to express their own interests. It expects that participants will grow in understanding and may decide to act together with common goals. In dialogue, participants can question and reevaluate their assumptions." [The White House.com]
One Hubber's Journey
I was asked a question recently by a fellow Hubber, R.J. Lefebvre, that inspired me to write this hub:
"Your topics are sincere, entertaining and well versed. However my entries lack notice by most,...
apparently because of my style, chosen topics, or just too dry to notice. Can you or someone else suggest changes I should make to be better received? Perhaps my mode of writing does not fit because of my choice for topic s?"
While a veteran of HubPages, Ronnie is in the process of discovering the potential of online writing, and in particular, the community of HubPages. http://hubpages.com/profile/R.+J.+Lefebvre
While Ronnie's assessment of my 'success' here on HubPages may or may not be accurate, it has taken many months of experimentation to establish my presence as a writer.
Writing With the Reader in Mind
Quality content is a necessary component when publishing here on HubPages, and it is vital to the overall character of one's writing. In addition, though, the various capsules provided are available to assist in making the reading experience all the more attractive and compelling. Photographs, polls, videos, and maps are just a few of the reader-friendly elements available to writers. Text, in and of itself, is often insufficient when left unadorned by these options.
The commentary following Hubs often serves to enhance the Hub itself, thus complementing the writer's intentions. On occasion, these comments may dispute the author's arguments, giving the piece an added dimension and contributing to overall understanding. I have found that reader participation augments and increases the value of theses put forth by authors.
Followers and Other Contributors
The publication of writing necessarily invites discussion, whether expressed or not, and online publishing is no exception. In fact, the extended nature of present-day technology brings writers together like never before. Followers can be an integral part of the experience on HubPages, as is one's responsibility as a follower.
"Surround yourself with people who are thoughtful, interesting, generous, funny, creative… and guess what? After a while your world starts to look that way too. You start giving yourself permission to play out those parts of your own character with more gusto, colour, and confidence.
And you learn how to adapt, cut, shift and control your reading (listening, talking, learning, watching, feeling) experience to one that suits you. This isn’t about following and connecting with people out of a sense of obligation to a community. Maybe it’s more like creating (day in, day out) the kind of community that supports, encourages and challenges you." [Confident Writing]
The rich community of writers is a modern miracle, if you will, and it behooves us to engage with others as much as possible.

It takes some time to get and you are doing quite well Laurel. yes. I will check that feller out too. x CC
great hub good info yes time and paitence are a virtu on hubpages very well done a very usefull peace
I've met so many great people online due to Hubpages, yourself included. Excellent hub
Good hub, Lorlie! During my over 2 years here, I have come across talented writers. One hubber writes like a poet, but, he hardly ever visits other hubs (not criticizing him, he is busy helping others) or answers to comments in his hubs, and because of this, I saw how throughout the years, no one would leave comments in the end, and he faded from Hubpages. The truth is, if we write publicly we as writers welcome dialogue, its a treat and encouragement. This is indeed an interactive community as you mentioned, and I have established nice friendships; for me what works is being respectful and down to earth with everyone as we all come from diverse paths, nationalities and talent; we are a human family who share a common love, and that is writing!
It has been nice meeting you, and thank you for accepting my friendship request in Facebook. :)
Rated up!
A very good Hub,you said it well and with great inspiration I think to a lot of readers.
I disagree with this hub! (I'm just trying to be interesting. Usually, I just flirt.)
Wow, wow, wow! I love the word community especially the way you have used it here. It's one of those words and can be used exploitively or used genuinely to describe what it is suppose to describe, people coming together ot support each other and to contribute to critical mass changes in the universe!! Just made that up! But it is true, and I know I have been heavily influenced over the last year by my followers and the comments and watching what others are writing. I never thought too much about writing verse here, but all of a sudden was inspired by others and way I went. I love this community. THANKS FOR WRITING ABOUT IT, and thanks to the community for letting me be a part of it. I feel very welcomed here. And very loved.
I love you all
Vern
nice job putting a simple explanation to the hub community...like the hub in technology hubpages is an integral whole of the parts...thanks
Like minded people tend to gravitate together and this leads to more interesting discussions. As Violet said with different words, if one takes the trouble to read a story and to make a comment on it, it would only be common courtesy for the author to acknowledge the comment in some way. If the author does not, then the thread is broken and there is no discussion. If there is no discussion, there is no interest.
Yes, absolutely (and that's how I answered the poll).
I get my list of "New Hubs by your Favorite" authors about the time I'm having my coffee, so it's a good time to catch up on what people are doing. Before and after that, I check the forums and THEN I might sit down to write something myself.
Very nice article lorlie! Reading, writing comments, reading back replies to comments are also a big pleasure on hubpages. A hub-home of a hubber is like an "Ashram", where people visit you and discuss. Often it is also becomes online spiritualism. I do plan to write some time more details about the concept of "Ashram" and relationship with a hub pages. Indeed it is a big pleasure to see your article describing it.
So very true. I have found that often the discussion that follows in the comments is often as interesting, if not more so, than the hub itself. HubPages is one of those very rare online places where the comments do not turn to complete horse manure after about the 4th or 5th post. The "community" is definitely what sets HubPages apart and has us all uneqivocally addicted! De Greek also makes a great point, people like to know that their comments have been read and considered. And really, it's in your best interest to comment back (it increases your views!) Great hub Lorlie! And I hope all is well with you!
This is a brilliant hub Laurel. You hit the nail on the head in so many ways. Hesitation at first for some hubbers may be the block to showing their style and creativeness.
However I know over time as they write more and expand on their techniques they will see the enhancement and benefits derived by supporting and commenting to other hubbers writings.
Being a player and not sitting on the sidelines usually gets them moving in the right direction. Like you and so many other talented writers in here, I am always blown away by the superior writings penned at the Hubs.
Some of us start off slow watching others from the sidelines and then suddenly we rush in for a touchdown and jump in the air and get the Pats of approval by our fellow players and they show us that we have "arrived"
I am happy to be here and contribute my humble writings to the team. I leave myself always open for critics so I learn the craft of writing from many experts at the hubs. I include you as one of those experts and I am glad to have found you. Peace and hugs.
Wonderful hub, Laurel and so true. If not for the community atmosphere, I would have quit altogether and run away last year when I got so upset with some of the comments that I received on the forum when I first started. The positive comments on my hubs and the feedback I got from 'normal' people is what saved me that sad November day!
All that said, I've also read comments from other hubbers that sound like a put down to be honest - 'you that are social hubbers'. Ah well - I guess I'd rather be a social hubber than a dried up old prune hubber! (ha ha)
Sure we'd all like to make money doing this but I think that the bottom line is that I love it because I've made great friends here and not only that, I value their words because they are such talented writers! I feel like it's important for an insecure writer such as myself to be surrounded by folks who inspire and make my writing world a better place to be. Who could go wrong with that?
Thanks to ALL of you who make my day all the time. Your comments always leave a warm spot (not on my chair) but in my heart because I feel like I did something really great when my writing friends tag me. And thanks for all the beautiful writing you all do that makes me think about other things and makes me want to write even more!
If it weren't for the comments section, I wouldn't do this. I can't imagine flinging my posts out into cyber-space without having a clue what anyone thought, or if anyone cared. Feedback is GREAT. Even if it's not great feedback. This is the best place I've found to hone my craft. The friendships are an added bonus, and the depth of friendship is something I never anticipated. You are one of those, dear lady! Great hub.
You’ve said it all. For a very long time I missed ‘socializing’ with intelligent people. (Not that my family and friends are not, but we are all too busy for sharing our deepests thoughts and views regularly.) HubPages is the ideal community for ‘thinkers’ and people who are eager to learn and understand as much as possible of life and all its issues. Not to practice whatever we learn as professionals, but to live as normal people with insight and wisdom. It is easy to ignore and disdain what we don’t know and understand, and just as easy to love, admire and respect what we do know and understand. Great hub, Laurel! Voted UP and UP!
Thanks lorlie for a great tribute to all those who love to comment! This Hub is not only an inspiration, it's a perfect example of why HP's commenters are so supportive and interesting. As sunflowerbucky says "HubPages is one of those very rare online places where the comments do not turn to complete horse manure after about the 4th or 5th post." I really relate to that! The reason is that this is a sophisticated, intelligent community where people are truly social networkers.
I will say this my dear, once again a great hub, well thought out and impformative, and yes teh community is everything, but again that is saying alot since everyone here is great!
Ok so you already know this is one of the best hubs ever, Lorlie , this is excellent advice, and an eye opener. It makes me want to be a better hubber. You are always so kind to other hubbers especially newbies, Lorlie ,and I vote for you as mayor.
Lorlie, You personality is stupendous, if I could learn 10% of your writing vitality and incorporate it in dialogue, I could go to bed without question marks buzzing around my head.
Ronnie
"Surround yourself with people who are thoughtful, interesting, generous, funny, creative… and guess what? After a while your world starts to look that way too. You start giving yourself permission to play out those parts of your own character with more gusto, colour, and confidence."
You do become similar to those you surround yourself.
Great Hub! Love Hub Pages. Thank you very much!
Recently when I posted in the forums I have ended up sorry that I did since many have criticized my religion until I felt like leaving HP. But, I tried not to take it too personally. My overall my experience here has been positive and I really enjoy some people like yourself who is very upbeat and encouraging. Thanks for your positive influence lorlie6.
This yet another brilliant hub lorlie6. I am still finding my feet here on HP and I have only just begun going on the forums. I must say that this has been a very good move with loads of positives being the outcome. You have been an inspiration since day 1 for me and I am bookmarking this one.
Thank you
Take care and God Bess lorlie6.
What a wonderful hub Lorlie! I agree one hundred percent with what you said. I really enjoy the community of Hubpages. I have even developed some close friends here.
Thanks for sharing.
Rated up and beautiful!
Lorlie - I truly love this hub and your well-turned evaluation of good writing as well as good "hubbing"! I happen to adore the dialog that follows a hub and I'm likely to read every word of both hub and its comments. Sometimes even what may have appeared to be a bit of a dry subject blossoms under the "watering" of the comments so that one may go back and reread the hub with a new sense of interest and appreciation! Many comments are works of style and beauty in and of themselves, but only the context of the entire "package" brings them into being and into the light!
Sad that some excellent writers miss the added advantage of sharing thoughts and generously visiting others' hubs as well as writing their own, so that they're virtually forgotten or ignored and fade away. I think I read that there are something lke 60,000 hubbers - (maybe more or less 0s - lol) but in any case, one is unlikely to be noticed in just sitting in one's hubroom writing and publishing. One needs also to BE a presence who is felt and with whom is interacted in the lovely ways provided!
Bravo, Lorlie! My vote is UP.
Thank you lorlie! I appreciate the interaction immensely. I've written in private for years and that has value. But when one reaches out to share with others, it is indeed a delight when they respond and of course, it must be mutual and reciprocated - or should be, that is. Your hub really puts the emphasis on the beauty of it.
great hub lorlie- lots of fantastic points. i am not sure i am as active as i was a few months ago (work and kids takes a lot of time) but I do agree that a certain degree of interaction gives you more understanding to who other Hubbers are-and gives others more insight to who you are. Rated Up and Awesome. big hugz xx
Wonderful. i voted absolutely, and so far 82% of your readers have voted the same. i never would have stayed,i think, without some feedback. I was so unsure of my writing (since I once had a collection of rejection letters..Dear Jackie...great, but not what we need at this present time....)that I used the ID bayoulady for annonomity at first. I wish I had used my real name, because I got the encouragement and feedback I needed in the beginning to continue.I have a positive outlook due cheifly at first to my friendly fellow hubbers.
Helpful hubbers, you included, got me off to a good start with my newbie questions..(uh..sorry I asked so many!)
Those who don't interact are missing a vital and fun part of hubberville!
Lorie, wonderful. Great example of this is hubber Kristin Low, goes under illmadily. His comments on things I'd written got the attention of some of my friends who read my work. They said things like, "he says the most beautiful things," and they were wondering if he wrote as well. That guy was a total inspiration to me when I first started writing here, and if you notice he's consistently supportive and insightful in his feedback with everyone. But Spain, illness, and a bicycle mission has him now, he will come back to hubpages (and his real life) with something good.
When I wrote before it was for professors, myself, or because someone asked me to. Getting feedback on this is great.
I'm really going to miss not seeing you on Wed, but I hope you have a safe trip down south.
Great idea for a hub, I liked this.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I write on this site because I love to write AND socialise. Without the comments I wouldn't have a clue what others thought of my writing (how sad) and I really enjoy the interaction with others on the site. My only problem (and its only small) is the time difference cause I'm down under. :( Thanks for another great hub about HP and giving someone else recognition Lorlie.
It is only a small thing, its just weird that when I'm up and active you guys are all ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ... :)
Nice hub. I read it, I like it and agree with it. You said it better than I would. Thanks.
You are so right - I think so many of us thrive on the interaction that HP fosters. And the more we try to fit into the community, the brighter the virtual sun shines :)
Will go check out the hubber you recommended.
Great Hub! You are absolutely right, lorlie! Every Hubber needs to read this. Thumbs up to you!
I love the video , I totally agree- we don't spend enough time with people. I have considered becoming part of the amish community-well just a thought you know?
Thanks
I agree. Its a great way to meet new friends and get good information at the same time.
That was a great read! Thank you for sharing that. I rated it up and started to follow you, hope to see you in my list of friends too!
Jeff
Great Hub Lorlie - as usual excellent Hub and recommended reading for not only new hubbers but all of the Hub community! Love reading your hubs!
The best part of Hub Pages is the interaction. And I'm so happy that people bother to read and comment on my hubs even though they are completely un-embellished with pictures, etc! :)
Great hub my Dear Laurel! I can't believe I'm so late getting here. Better never than late my Dad used to say! i think. Can't remember. I may have magnesia.
Lorlie, I'm just beginning to get this...in a way; and this hub is so helpful. Just yesterday (or the day before) it occured to me to "talk to others" as though we were all sitting together telling our stories. And 'hearing' what others have to say! All of a sudden, I felt 'closer' to any readers who might visit my space here on Hub Pages. As always, I find myself happy to be reading your offering(s)...and in agreement. Thank you for this great advise.
Hey Laurel, came by this hub and have to say you did an excellent job. Very nicely written. Voted it up and marked it as useful. A lot people can benefit from reading it. Thank you for sharing. :)
I would not be nearing my 200th hub if not for the community. I've learned more here (for free) than that of all the other internet education I've spent good money for. I have had so many wonderful laughs and learned to laugh at myself more freely.
You yourself are an inspiritation to me and many others (I'm sure) for your frank and candid expressions of life.
Thanks for your take on followers and Commentary on HubPages. :)
Lorlie6,
I voted that I indeed feel a big part of the community. I learned quickly on hub pages how it feels to feel such a part of the community here. It is like any community we belong to. We must speak, listen and reflect. I can't imagine not pondering daily on what my fellow hubbers are writing about. I love the connection I have made to so many wonderful writers. It would be stale without the back and forth. That is what makes this site so special.
lorlie6 I saw your post in the Forum--You Are definitely a Writer! I also saw another forum post where a hubber asked what is a sucessful hubbber? It is those who share in the community as much as they are passionate about the creation of their hubs.I believe the more you give ..the more you get...sharing your sucess with others only makes you richer...Thank you for sharing this hub.
Great hub... I myself am kind of a hub jumper. I guess that being said, my original goal was to try and publish one article a day (I have proven myself unable to reach that goal at this time) Although, the up side of this is that I have read some great articles and have met some great writers. That being said, I guess it is just as important to read other people's articles to get a following for yourself, than it is to write the articles.
On a side note, jumping hubs, I have noticed that some of the writers don't always use good punctuations, grammer, etc... Now, not that I am necessarily one to judge, but nothing turns me away from a hub faster than being unable to smoothly read it because the punctuation is all over the place and the words do not flow... With that being said... EDIT EDIT EDIT... a good article will follow, so will the audience.
lorlie6,
This is a great hub, and you offer good advice for hubbers. I agree on the grammar issue which babergirl28 mentioned about...I think this definitely part of good writing. And I like your point about keeping the reader in mind. Thanks for your advice!
Regards,
Easylearningweb
This is well done....and quite unifying.
When I am not researching and writing, I am reading. That is how I came to be here on your hub tonight.
What a positive message, I found waiting!
This was a nice hub. The interaction through comments is the main element, I believe, that keeps everyone here. I have met some wonderful people that I truly consider friends. Feedback is very important to a writer....(Now, could I persuade you with an earwax candle? I understand they are verrry shiny and even glow. You get my drift, right?)
Great tips! A good one to keep to memory. I am all about maximizing time spent on line. Some sites give you a payback for the investment you make in your time and energy (like HubPages), others do not. Cheers, Stephanie
Yes I think the best thing about hubpages is the interaction with other hubbers, and there is no better boost for confidence than to see that someone whose writings you admire, also likes yours
When I read this hub I agree whith everything. You have described the community here perfect. I am new here, and at first I was a bit afraid of interacting with other. I did sneak around for a while, saw many great hubs, but didn´t dare to really participate in community. But now, I am trough the sneakin part, because I have seen and felt this lovely interacting on hubpages. And the interaction is as great as the writing and reading! I enjoyed reading! Voted up!
The hubs I like best are the ones that generate interesting comments and keep the dialog going.
The empty - just polite comments - will bring nothing new or of value to the table and ultimately will "kill" the debate, which is the best part of being a member of the HP community.
Good hub and don't know why I missed it. Yes, I do, that was a lie. The computer on hubpages doesn't think I want to read this stuff so it passes me by. That would be the answer to the question that I asked on why I don't get to see all the hubs by all the followers that I follow. Anyway, I eventually saw this one.
I write to stimulate thought in people. If I get some comments, that is fine. I love comments. I find that somne "bubble" communities here seem to think they own the joint and will try their best to silence the hubbers who don't follow their ways. That is what makes the world go round--differening opinions because those differing opinions are from differing experiences. There are many thousands of differening experiences for a reason. If we were all the same and thought the same and did the same we would be a very boring lot.
The "bubble" community would be the religious fanatics.
No problem! hehehe
I enjoyed reading this and I am glad to have met you. You are one of the consistent and lovely people on HP Community. I notice some change over time. (sorry to say).
In response to your question at the beginning. A Hub can't really stand alone. It's nice to get a message across through a Hub and also receive feedback and interact.
On a personal note: HP helped me through a very traumatic time. At that time, when I joined Writing took my mind off all the pain and I used to be in Forums a lot interacting -infact I used to sleep there. lol. Totally enjoyed the interaction.
Great Hub.
I value so much the interaction we have here at HP, especially with you, among others! I'm learning so much here that I don't want to destroy this relationship with all my hubber friends.
Yes, I agree with you that no hub can be on its own. We need each other to support or negate our opinions. This makes the interaction exciting as it is worthwhile. You've got a lot of best thoughts to offer. Brilliant ones from a brilliant writer, too!
I have a special place for you in my first year anniversary hub prayer, you so deserve a warm "Thank you". Glad to have found you!
Seems like hubbers are so impressed with your hub that I had to dig down to this page so much to make this comment and I hardly have anything new to say. So, a vote up, useful......and yes I totally agree with you.
This is an awesome and very helpful Hub. I love the interaction on HubPages too. I have been a bit behind in commenting on Hubs as my laptop was beginning to act its age and I had to nurse it. But now I have a new one - YAY! So I guess I will be more active again.
Thanks for sharing these important ideas.
Love and peace
Tony
You know only too well how the hub pages is just not another place. It is so much more than that.Because of our giving to each other endless times in comments and helpful hints or just a quick read when no one else would. We leave here so much happier in our writings and in life.I love to read your wonderful hubs.Congratulations on your 10,000 views! What a great accomplishment.
You discussed the important things about the HP community Laurel. I agree it definitely is the most important part of HP. Congrats on your hubs being read over 10,000 times.
lorlie, you shouldn't ever doubt your own writing ability, because you're a fine writer. I agree completely that one of the things that adds to "the HubPages experience" is often the good, solid, discussions that can take place on one Hub or another. I often write about "the serious matters of life", and writing about some serious things usually means (at least for me) aiming to be really "comprehensive". So, I often end up with long Hubs that pretty much look (to me) like a big, long-winded, thing about whatever it's about. When people start adding their own substantial comments (whether they agree, don't, or somewhere in between) it turns a one-side-looking "discussion" into something so much balanced.
Most of us have seen people on the forums who say, "I don't get why people leave big, long, comments". One time, when people were talking about comments one person said (about people who leave long comments on her Hubs) "Write your own damned Hub." LOL Maybe that'a a funny comment; and sometimes when I've responded to a serious, substantial, comment/contribution I've thought, "Hey - I should make this another Hub, not just a response to a comment." Still, there's something about those solid contributions and that back-and-forth on a discussion of substance that definitely adds a whole lot more to any Hub (and also, a lot of people's "experience").
I think a lot of "writer types" don't just enjoy writing. They enjoy thinking and discussing and debating. I'm always appreciative if someone sees a discussion as worthwhile enough to spend a little time contributing to it. I want readers of any Hubs I have to see those insights, additions, and arguments; and it has nothing whatsoever with any potential increase in traffic or other "benefit" to me. As "writer-types" we tend to love words and ideas. When someone adds worse and ideas (to either a Hub or even the forum), to me, that's the whole point of this particular kind of site.
We're a Hub, We're a Hub, We're a Hub in the middle of a wheel
Without each other we would only be a spoke, or brake, or squeal
HubPages is a community thinkers, writers and sharers
Some don't bother to comment or reply what's the deal?
lorlie6, knowing you as a writer, and inspiration I get what you feel
I am happy to be a Hub in the middle of this Wheel
It took me awhile to get here, but am happy to see not only this Hub, but the interaction stimulated by it. I belonged to a social community that is now defunct and spent hours reading and commenting on others blogs. Some of the stuff was exceptional they wrote, other stuff just fair, but each time I took the time to write something, it meant a great deal to the writer. I would love to spend as much time here doing the same, but as a college instructor, I read my fair share of papers and also am working on my PhD. so, I have to write for myself with no expectation of interaction, because most of the time I cannot get here to read and comment on others. And it is only fair to do that to those who take the time to read our pieces, which you have done for me many times and I thank you my dear.
Keep writing..it is a legacy for you that can never be taken away!
Hugs,
Aley
Its absolutely awesome detail as you did write in this post.
This hub is spot-on, and the comments from fellow hubbers are a tribute to your sentiments and this phenomenal avenue for writers. The "team" spirit and support amazing. I am only sorry it took me so long to find you all!
Yes lorlie6, it is really a community of writers here. Most of us have been hardwired to write, write and write some more. But it is the interaction within our Hub Family that really gives meaning to our work. To be validated by others is a good feeling. Great article.
How in the world did I miss this, As ussual you're insight is a guiding factor for many , HUGs....
I like what you said,"No hub is an island." I was just thinking about this last night, how the interaction of community writing has changed the way we read on the internet. Very interesting article.
A lovely Hub that highlights all the good things HubPages has to offer the social Hubber.
However, I read this Hub with your recent forum comments in mind - which suggested you were hoping for more earnings from your writing.
I wrote a Hub on "HubPages Etiquette" and part of it talks about the difference between community Hubbing and money-making Hubbing. If you're seeking to make money, the community is lovely but it will not contribute to your income, and in fact it can be counter-productive if you get so involved you neglect your real work!
@Lorlie, personally I think there's too much emphasis on the "product Hub" Hubbers these days, and it's easy to get the impression that's the only way to make money.
It may be true that's the way to make big money, but it's not the only way to get some income from your Hubs. Have you ever looked at Relache's work? She's financially very successful but she writes about her passions and interests, not products. I do the same, and I'm not doing as well as Relache but I do earn $250 to $300 a month from my Hubs.
Lorlie you are such a good writer, I am impressed at how you are able to express your thoughts and feelings on the page, I feel as if you are talking in front of a class of people, that is such a rare talent you have.
Keep it up my friend.
The hub-community is awesome, a great place to write and interact! Money is definitely a bonus:)
You make a good point....
I didn't answer your poll because I have not been very active lately, but polls are one of the many great tools that HubPages provides us with to make our hubs more interesting. (as you stated). One of the reasons I like HubPages so much is the community. You get the feeling that people like what you do (most of us anyway).
Writing here is interesting because of that.
Lorlie - what? You are so excellent. I loved the topic - I wish I had seen this when I first started. Hub is a world of it's own and sometimes it is difficult to figure out small things - such as etiquette, you know? Like I was scared to even leave a comment at first! I didn't know if a new comer could just bust into the party like that:). I think I found Stan and you know he's so approachable - I followed him to figure things out.
You are so smart - from the use of the words to the style - it's so impressive to me. You are exactly the type of hubber I was trying to find to copy the style. Up and out of site!
Lorlie - you are so "what it is"! I mean it - your writing alone is amazing. You could be a complete bi&%$ and I would follow you and keep short comments! haha But you are so cool - like icing on the cake. How could I not be a fan? How coulde anyone? I mean - I am ready to come and wash your car - clean your house - whatever!
This was really great... I have been around hub for a while now... at least long enough to learn a few things, and what I have found is that the more interactive I am in the community, the more I get noticed. Therefore, being a part of the community is vital. It does take some time... but the rewards are amazing. The comment sections take on a whole new suberb of the city of Hubville. That is my favorite part. Sure, I can write the stuff, publish it online, but without the feedback... I really don't know if I would enjoy it half as much.
BBG - right! It wouldn't be as fun without you guys! I don't think I'd have kept doing it without feed back - how would I get better? I think everyone has helped me - not only by commenting and making suggestions, but with ideas for new stuff. The commentary really enables growth for me.
Yeah - you and BBG both make me laugh so much - now how can you not love that?
That's what's up!
Have a super excellent weekend!
This has been a sweet weekend. I've done a few domestic tasks - (you know sweeping up fur:) dusting - then reading and movies all weekend. Doesn't get much better than that:). I hope you are having an equally awesome weekend!
Lorlie - you are just like me. I'd have put the surgery off as long as I could:). Maybe you just need a little more time to think about it and get used to the idea.
We had strong storms here last night and lost electricity for a few hours. It was so hot upstairs Sydney and I woke up and came downstairs. The animals knew something was amiss so even the birds were chatting;). Thank goodness we could sleep late but now my day is washed out. I know what to do - I'll cook something nice:) lol
Have a sweet day Laurel! (I just LOVE that name!) Daves dad was very hard of hearing and he always called my girls Cindy and Laura instead of Sydney and Laurel:) I finally stopped correcting him and I would go-ahead and call them that too when talking to him. Haha!
lorlie6, great advice and voted up. I need to read your other hubs, so I am now following you ;)
Bruce
Thanks, lorlie6, looking forward to your comments.
Hi lorlie6, you offer great tips and insight. I totally agree about keeping the reader in mind when writing a hugpage.
Nice hub!
reat hub. How wonderful that you helped another hubber when they reached out to you. I agree, the reader definately needs to be kept in mind. Without them where are we?
